While the economy is in red, the Japanese fashion house Comme des Garçons is in black. They recently opened a two-story concept shop in Tokyo’s Kotto-dori street, most recently occupied by the label’s temporary CdG x Louis Vuitton venture, has, in true Comme des Garçons fashion, been completely transformed — again. (Die-hard fans will remember the initial transformation of this space several years ago during Comme’s collaboration with the Belgian artist Jan De Cock.) Since Comme des Garçons’s last monochromatic space was its vibrant Red shop in Paris, which opened in 2001, you can’t help but think that BLACK may be the company’s commentary on current times.
